48 Hours in Brussels

May 30, 2015

I spent a very fun two days in Brussels this week. It was a university trip with my course and the main reason for us going there was to get to know a bit more clearly what the European Parliament does. The two days absolutely flew by and in addition to school-kind-of-stuff we had plenty of time to explore Brussels too. I'm not doing a typical travel guide, but more of a... "If you have two days in Brussels, what should you (not) do". Here goes!

1. Eat waffles! I had mine with typical Belgian cookie paste Spekuloos and strawberries, but every other combination seemed just as great.
2. Drink beer! I'm not a big beer fan, but still tried a few different sorts. My favourite was Kriek, which is a kind of cherry beer and tastes like cider, actually.
3. Peoplewatch! The best spot for that would probably be the Town Hall Square. It's a stunning place for a little stop to recover tired feet (with beer in hand).
4. Don't visit the Parliamentarium. An interactive museum about the European Parliament might seems interesting, but believe me, Google will do the trick.
5. Watch the sunrise in front of the Palace of Justice. But make sure you actually aim for the sunset and don't arrive two hours early (like a few of my friends did).
6. Rent a bike. Brussels is really compact and though walking will do, biking is probably so much convenient. It's a reasonable price too, so you can still afford the waffles. Although in the pretty old town I suggest walking to see all the gems and get through tourist hords at the Manneken Pis.

    1. The waffles are totally worth a short trip to Brussels, especially when you're somewhere around central Europe anyway.
