The parrot skirt

August 23, 2012

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for your sympathetic comments on my last post. I bet the loafers are in shoe-heaven now..
Yesterday was an oh-so-cultural day for me. First, I went to the art museum KUMU with my sister. It was so nice to take a break from everyday life and walk trough three floors of masterpieces. And I can't believe I hadn't properly seen it's architecture from the front. It's just breathtaking. Gotta love being a tourist in my own hometown. In the evening I went to the theatre with my mom to enjoy two actors playing at least 5 roles each and almost burst into laughs on the stage.
Continuing with the animal theme from my last outfit post I decided to wear a whole flock of parrots on my skirt to go to the theatre. When I saw the skirt at an H&M in Gothenburg during our trip, I knew I had to have it. It's just the fun and impractical piece of clothing to have, that goes with pretty much nothing. Luckily I managed to come up with this combination and pair it with my slouchy black knit and feminine accessories.
Tonight I'm going to see "The Intouchables" to check out what all the fuss around this movie is about.

See on lihtsalt hingematvalt võimas arhtitektuur! Linnateatris käisin vaatamas etendust "Kivid sinu taskutes", kus Indrek Ojari ja Argo Aadli mängisid kahekesi kõiki rolle ja peaaegu purskasid laval naerma.
Jätkates loomatemaatiliste riietustega, otsustasin kanda seda H&M'i papagoiseelikut. Seda nähes teadsin, et ma kindalt tahan selle osta, mis sest, et seda on päris raske millegagi kokku sobitada. Õnneks sobis see mu musta kampsuniga, lisades naiselikke aksessuaare.
Täna õhtul lähen kinno vaatama filmi "1+1", et näha miks see film nii eriline on, et seansid on 3 päeva ette välja müüdud!

Rediscoveries

December 05, 2011

Told you I'd be indoors from now on - hence the no shoes look. I still haven't managed to lose the flu and get back my voice..
It seems that whenever I get a new piece of clothing I have to wear it a dozen times before I can let go and consider putting on other clothes. The same thing is with this sweater. This time I decided to pair it with a cute floral skirt , which I think hasn't been on the blog yet. I actually made it in the beginning of last summer ( in 2009 ) . And the necklace is a DIY beauty from last winter, also rediscovered.
I wore this outfit on the weekend. We just had a nice cozy night in at Getter's. Our original plan was to study.. yeah, right. Eventually we made pizza, fondue and watched "Catch me if you can". The movie was brilliant. I loved that it was based on a true story, young Leonardo was oh-so-handsome and so incredibly clever and intelligent.

Also, meet Getter's cat Ronja. I think she likes me, because she came and sat next to me and started purring.  She looked like the sweetest furball ever. And then she bit be. I think she totally lives up to her name.

Sunday in New York

November 29, 2011

For the last two days I've stayed at home, because of a flu. So naturally, the best thing to do is watch movies. I came across "Sunday in New York" last night on TCM, and since it is a romantic comedy from 1963 I had to watch it. The movie was lovely, as any other romantic comedy, but what I loved most about it-the apartment where half of the movie was set.

Things I loved about the apartment:
1) It's in New York
2) It was levelled, the living room was on the main level, the bedroom was upstairs and the bar was on a lower level.
3) Since it was levelled, it had a staircase. Any apartment that has stairs is perfection in my eyes.
4) Wonderful red brick walls
5) A fireplace
6) Huge windows

To prove it to you, I found a few pictures from a blog called Silents and Talkies, which is all about old movies, woohoo !

And if you're still not convinced, take a look at this little part of the movie.

Black nights

November 27, 2011

Florence and the Machine- No light, no light

*insert complaining about weather*- the conclusion is that it's dark. So I decided to go along with it and take the pictures in complete darkness.
Yesterday, Getter and I went to PÖFF(Black nights film festival). We saw a wonderful French silent movie "The Artist". It was black-and-white, set in the 20s in Hollywood and had amazing classical music playing on the background. It was really  good and I definitely recommend it to you. If you're not a fan of old movies, watch it for the clothes. Or the adorable dog, who was by far the best character in the whole movie. It is even said, that it might be an Oscar nominee..

Somehow it happens, that when I have to dress for the night, I firstly turn to my cut-off jeans. I really like them, but it would be unethical to wear them at school, so whenever I get the change, I try to incorporate them in my outfit. I paired them with a wonderful dark purple blazer that I got from my favourite thrift store during fall break.
The necklace is something that I found from my jewellery box. I got it as a birthday present from my relatives years ago, but now I rediscovered its fabulousness. And the hat is my mom's, not mine..

Fingers crossed that we'll be blessed with snow soon , because it's the first advent already !

Dirty Dancing

August 30, 2011

Done! Loved it !
Now I can say that it really is one of the greatest love stories of movie history. Patrick Swayze is a total badass dreamboat tough guy turned good(and the way he dances !!). And Baby, even if she was a total wuss in the beginning, she's the classic good girl turned bad. The movie is truly iconic. It immediately got a spot in my favourites .
And I've got the song stuck in my head, but I'm ok with that.
Everyone who hasn't watched it yet, please do.

90's kid

August 25, 2011

Being a true girl of the nineties I love the comeback that my first decade is making. It is quite weird to think that soon something that was bought in the nineties will be considered vintage. That makes me feel really old..
Anyway, when I first saw this top at the sales, I was completely broke and decided that when I get money, I'll hope it's still there for me to buy. And it was! Plus it was even cheaper. I didn't even consider wearing it as it was, I immediately took a pair of scissors and chopped the bottom off it. Another lovely thing about that top is that from the front it seems like the plainest grey shirt, but at the back.. party ! I love the open back detail so much !
I wore it today to the movies. I went to see "Smurfs" with my sister, Getter and her siblings.I remembered that I used to have a Smurfs puzzle when I was little so when their little mushroom houses appeared on the screen, I felt a bit nostalgic. Other than that..it was a fun movie. But I think that I mostly laughed over the movie, not because of the jokes. Phrases like son of a smurf, what the smurf, I think I just smurfed, get the smurf out of hereI smurf you and so on just get a little ridiculous and annoying by the end of the movie. Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris spoke in Estonian. Now, that was hilarious !
Well, I think I'm going to go and search for the puzzle now and leave you with one of my favourite songs from when I was 5.

City lights

August 18, 2011

This Tuesday night I went to another Guerrilla Cinema screening. This time it was at
Harju street and the film was "Our man in Havana" based on Graham Greene's book. It was a really cool black-and-white spy movie. I've also read the book about three years ago and I've had the movie on my movie-list since then, so it was a perfect choice :)
I made the necklace the same day. I absolutely love this COS necklace that seems to give every usual outfit that little spice.  And then one day I remembered a really cool zipper necklace that I'd wanted to do myself for ages and I got myself together to buy the zippers and start. Turns out, it's exactly what my accessories collection was lacking.
Sadly, I think I managed to get a flu that evening. I wasn't exactly very warmly dressed and it was a bit windy. Now I just hope it won't get worse. It feels a bit strange to be ill in summer, though..
The pictures were taken after the cinema, at about midnight. Getter had a change to play with flash and Kaisa was her lovely assistant. Some guys even asked us if we were professional photographer/model. I must give them credit for a good pick-up line.
Have a lovely week, everyone !

This week..

July 16, 2011

What I've been up to this week...

Listening to Ewert and the Two Dragons album that I bought and eating lots of ice-cream (this particular one is banana+chocolate+toffee+vanilla with chocolate chips+almonds)

I made macaroons. It was quite simple actually, but they didn't look that great( except the three on the picture). The taste is alright, especially with raspberry jam..

Finally found a similar-to-tiffany-blue nail polish. It's actually a bit darker, but I love it :)

I received a necklace from Threadsence that I got from Chictopia. Can't wait to wear it !

I went to see Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinski. I really didn't like the movie, it was quite dull and boring. I liked Coco avant Chanel so much more..

The Notebook

September 22, 2010

I had a day off from school and instead of using it wisely, I decided to watch "The Notebook" starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. It was a great movie, so cute and I didn't have a clue of what was going to happen in the end. It was such a cute lovestory and the plot was great too, how there were young Allie and Noah and then the elders. And Allie's clothes were amazing.

wonderful life

August 27, 2010

This week has practically flown by and I have had no time to write :)
Wonday-Wednesday we were at Getter's. We went there by bikes..37 km from my house to hers. Since we had two nights, then we managed to watch four movies :
Little Ashes- It was kind if uninteresting, but I liked how they had portrayed Salvador Dali. When he went to art school, he wasn't very confident, but when he was a big artist in Paris, he was arrogant and selfish. And it was  a sweet gay-love-story. :)
The Runaways- It was really cool. All the rock'n'roll and all. Although I hated Kristen steward's hair in the movie. She didn't look good at all. But Dakota Fanning was great. It is such a shame, that the band didn't last that long.
Superbad- totally a typical high-school comedy, but it was nice for a change
Sweeney Todd- It was amazing, so thrilling through the movie and the ending was really surprising.

On Tuesday I went to the cinema with my sister to see Letters to Juliet. It was such a sweet movie . Although the trailer pretty much spoils the whole movie, it was still good. I thought that it would be a cliche, but it wasn't. Romantic comedies are always such feel-good movies, I walked away smiling ad feeling great :)

Today I went to the old-town with Getter. I was being a good friend and listened to all her complaints about her almost-siblings. Then we bought ourselves big sandwiches from Bristo and coke. There's a campaign, that every fifth bottle wins a new Coke. Getter is a total addict and has bought it the whole summer, but hasn't won anything. I haven't bought Coke for ages and today I won :) yay !
